"In December, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Enforcement District A-2 in western Arkansas held their annual special disability deer hunt on a private ranch in Franklin County. Nine disabled hunters participated in the two-day hunt. All nine of the hunters harvested a deer.

Hunters were paired with guides and treated with a breakfast and a short briefing on gun safety. Each hunter also was given a camouflage hunting coat, hand-held radio, knife and flashlight set, hat, special addition National Wild Turkey Federation numbered box turkey call and a bag full of goodies from the Janet Huckabee Arkansas River Valley Nature Center."

This quote says it all in only a few words. Limitations are just like rules, they are meant to be broken and passed. With all the new technology in today’s world, any disabled person can usually still have the chance to do most anything he/she wants to do including enjoying the outdoors. There are many new adaptive products and equipment that can help any outdoorsman keep on enjoying the outdoors. Here is one of latest examples below

HQ 100 Model (High Quad) is designed for use by people with no arm or hand use. They are able to fire a weapon with a simple bite of their teeth. There are sensors in mouthpiece, that when bitten down on hard enough, will go off and then pull the trigger on the weapon.

I already covered the basic reasons for choosing the topic of helping people with disabilities or illnesses have a chance to hunt but I will cover them again and expand.

I chose to do my blog on hunting and helping people with disabilities to have a chance to hunt because one of my passions is the outdoors. I love to hunt all year round while enjoying the many perks to the sport. I thought maybe one day, that is if I ever have enough money, that I would like to own and manage a hunting ranch for all types of hunting including upland birds, waterfowl, and deer. My dream is to have this ranch be part of “Make a Wish Foundation” or something of that nature. I want my ranch to have accessible hunting to people with disabilities. From wheelchair accessible deer blinds to wheelchair accessible paths in fields in order bird hunt. I believe they deserve a chance to experience the same thrill and enjoyment from hunting that I get.
There are already a few types of these organizations up and running today. Some outdoor TV networks have shows that broadcast people with impairing illnesses or disabilities getting a chance of a lifetime to hunt and bag animal that never would have been possible without the money and special equipment of these organizations. I find these groups honorable and very appealing. I would love to work for or own one someday.

Poet Tonight

I went to the extra credit poet tongiht that Professor Gallaher reccomended. Ill admit it was different from my usual routine. But I actually enjnoyed it, I have never sat and listened to poetry like that. I was confused alot haha but It was cool to see a different side of writing that I have never experienced.

I thought Alex Lemon was very interesteing and insightful. The way he described things grabbed everyone in the audience and forced them to imagine the things he was describing. His lastest book Happy embraced and covered all the struggles and hardships he went through with his Brain illnesses.

I think his experiences and success can relate to my blog especially dealing with his brain illness. He was able to keep a journal during his whole illness and show people the dark and depressed feelings such an illnesss can make you come eye to eye with. He definately is lucky to be alive. His attitude towards his whole career and his books was sort of unique, it was different but I am glad I went.
